I have been to the Grosvenor casino in Blackpool a few times, and would recommend to anyone planning a visit that they go on foot, whilst the location of the casino is brilliant, sat right bang on the promenade next to the Sandcastle and virtually opposite the Pleasure Beach if you go during the main season you will be hard pressed to find anywhere to park.
During the winter, parking in somewhat easier however go with armfuls of pound coins, not for the slot machines when you get into the casino but for the parking meters. I did once manage to find a free parking spot outside the casino as they do have limited (very limited) parking spaces, and finding a vacant free spot gives you the feeling you have when you win a jackpot on the slots.
Anyway let me tell you about the casino itself, as I am a member of one of their other casinos it was simply a case of giving the receptionist my card for the other venue and she 'added' Blackpool onto it, so no need for Passports, Driving Licenses and all that nonsense.
The layout of the casino was quite standard, you are offered a small range of the £500 slots and the main slot floor has the usual mix of high jackpot paying slots (£4000) and roulette machines, you can pick the roulette game you want to play on the roulette machines yourself from three options, you can choose either the automatic one or two of the live tables.
The screens you watch them on are a little awkward to see depending on where you sit and which machine you play, but as you can see the live roulette tables from this area you can pick one that hasn't got a lot of players on it should you want a speedier style game, meaning if the live roulette table is packed the amount of time between each spin can be agonisingly slow when playing the roulette machines!
When I visited there was some sort of photo shoot for some 'Boxers' not being a fan of the sport I hadn't a clue who they were, however this all took place in the bar area just off the casino floor and from taking the odd glance the bar area did look large, clean and well presented, however the price of the drinks is outrageous!
The mix of casino staff was varied with the younger members of the staff performing the usual dealer or croupier duties, I have a few games on the live roulette and the staff were chirpy enough, if not more interested in what the Boxers were doing and who they were (I still haven't a clue who they were, could have been Mike Tyson for all I know).
All in all I have rated this casino a 3, it the parking was better and the roulette screens more visible (without have to bend over virtually backwards to view them at times, I would probably still have rated them it a 3!) Would I go again, well in Blackpool when it comes to playing slots especially you have more choice than you can shake a stick at, so I probably will go, if I can find somewhere to park and if it was raining!
